Bonduel Sweeps Pro Qualifying for World Finals

Amaury Bonduel swept Pro qualifying for the Lamborghini World Finals at Jerez, securing pole position for both races.

The Belgian, who captured the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe title on Friday, beat Target Racing driver Hampus Ericsson in both 20-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday morning.

He set his best time during the opening session, steering the No. 28 BDR Competition by GrupoProm Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 to a lap of 1:43.732.

Ericsson was 0.224 further back in second, while the second row for the opening race was occupied entirely by North American entries.

Danny Formal set a 1:44.114 to go third in the No. 101 Wayne Taylor Racing machine, less than a tenth clear of the No. 130 ANSA  Motorsport Lamborghini piloted by Loris Cabirou.

Giorgio Amati rounded out the top five for Iron Lynx, while a late flyer allowed Flying Lizard Motorsports driver Andy Lee to capture Pro-Am pole position in sixth overall.

Bonduel then again led the second segment of qualifying, despite remaining in the pits for the opening ten minutes.

Once he joined the session, he posted a 1:44.535 to again outpace Ericsson’s No. 31 machine, although this time by a smaller margin of 0.175 seconds.

Ericsson’s Target Racing stablemate Oliver Soederstroem took third ahead of the No. 57 ART-Line Lamborghini driven by Egor Orudzhev.

Giano Taurino will line up fifth overall as the best North American entry in the No. 188 TR3 Racing car he shares with Ernie Francis Jr., ahead of the No. 130 Lamborghini piloted by Bryson Morris.

The No. 232 SJM Iron Lynx Theodore Racing Lamborghini of Miki Koyama and Hon Chio Long slotted into seventh, ahead of the No. 33 ASR machine of Milos Pavlov that took Pro-Am pole for Race 2.

In the pair of Am/LB Cup sessions, Stephane Tribaudini secured pole for Race 1 aboard the No. 66 Vincenzo Sospiri Racing Lamborghini by setting a 1:44.582.

Newly crowned European LB Cup champion Shota Abkhazava captured pole in class in seventh overall, but Paolo Biglieri put his LB Cup-entered No. 32 ASR machine on overall pole for Race 2.

Biglieri’s  1:45.927 was 0.065 seconds quicker than the No. 2 Boutsen VDS Lamborghini of Renaud Kuppens, which captured pole position in Am.

The first Am/LB Cup race gets underway at 1:55 p.m CET. (7:55 a.m. EDT) while the Pro/Pro-Am opener starts at 4:15 p.m. (10:15 a.m. EDT).
