Taurino Takes Win on Sunday Amid De La Torre Retirement

Giano Taurno returned to victory lane in Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America for the first time in two years, in Sunday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in a contest that saw the Pro class points leader Elias De La Torre retire early in the running.

Taurino took his No. 88 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 to a 2.939-second win over the No. 2 RAFA Racing Team entry of Tyler Gonzalez and Kiko Porto, claiming the final series win on U.S. soil for the V10-powered single-make car ahead of the Temerario Super Trofeo’s debut in 2027.

While Taurino claimed a flag-to-flag win in the caution-free 50-minute contest, it came in a race to forget for TR3 driver De La Torre, who was due to start on the front row but slowed on the pace lap, before later pitting and retiring from the race.

De La Torre provisionally had a 26-point lead entering the race and could have even locked up the Pro title.

However, the gap has now been reduced to 16 points, thanks to a third place finish for the No. 33 XONINE Racing entry of Darius Trinka and Will Bamber.

It came after Trinka nursed his car home in tenth overall in Saturday’s race after gearbox issues.

Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 44 Kaizen Autosport Lamborghini of Wyatt Foster and Seth Henry, defeating the recently clinched champions Danny Formal and Graham Doyle, which saw an uncharacteristic spin by Formal.

The now four-time series champion passed the No. 77 Forty7 Motorsports entry of Keawn Tandon to rebound for a second place class finish.

David Staab provisionally clinched the Am class title with victory in his No. 48 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini.

Staab held off a hard-charging Cooper Broll in the sister PPM entry to claim his second win of the season.

Rocky T. Bolduc, meanwhile, completed a sweep of the weekend in LB Cup class aboard his Topp Racing entry.

Bolduc now holds a five-point class lead heading into the final two rounds of the season at Monza, prior to the Lamborghini World Finals.
