Nick Persing was declared the winner of Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Race 2 at Misano after a five-second track limit penalty for ANSA Motorsport’s Colin Queen, while championships were decided in the Pro-Am and Am categories.
The No. 108 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 led a 1-2 for Wayne Taylor Racing ahead of the sister machine of newly crowned champions Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson, with Queen and Enzo Geraci classified third.
Persing started the race from pole position and initially opened up a gap of over three seconds over the chasing Geraci in the first half of his stint, only for the Frenchman to chip away at the gap again as the pit window approached.
As a result, Geraci’s co-driver Queen was able to capture the lead from Persing as the latter spent more time stationary in the pits as a solo driver.
However, a five-second penalty for track limits abuse meant that although the No. 104 car crossed the line first, it was dropped behind the pair of WTR cars in the results.
The No. 177 Forty7 Motorsports Lamborghini of Keawn Tandon and Al Morey finished a distant fourth, 29.036 seconds behind third after a spin for Morey.
In fifth overall, Jason Hart and Conrad Geiss took the Pro-Am class victory, narrowly taking the title away from Tadas Karlinskas and Darius Trinka in the process.
With twelve minutes remaining, Geiss steered his No. 167 TR3 Racing Lamborghini past Karlinskas’ No. 111 MLT Motorsports machine to take the lead in class.
At that point, the Lithuanian pairing was still in a position to beat Hart and Geiss to the championship by a single point, but Karlinskas came under increasing pressure from ANSA Motorsport’s Nico Jamin in the closing minutes.
After rapidly closing on Karlinskas, Jamin’s No. 130 Lamborghini completed a Turn 1 overtake with under two minutes remaining to drop the No. 111 to third in class.
This, in turn, gave Geiss and Hart the points’ advantage they needed to take the championship.
Geiss crossed the line just ahead of the sister TR3 machine of Will Bamber and Elias De La Torre, which recovered to sixth overall after contact on the opening lap saw the No. 129 car dropped to last.
Ernie Francis Jr. and Luke Berkeley finished seventh for Alliance Racing ahead of Jamin and Karlinskas, while Lindsay Brewer and Jem Hepworth rounded out the overall top ten and took the class victory in Am in the process.
However, that was not enough to prevent the No. 110 Wayne Taylor Racing machine of Glenn McGee and Graham Doyle to capture the championship by finishing second in class.
Rocky T Bolduc, meanwhile, completed a sweep of wins in LB Cup, securing second place in the championship standings.
Nick Groat, who is not competing at Misano this weekend, already clinched the title at the previous round in Indianapolis.
