Nicki Thiim will become the first factory Aston Martin driver to contest the DTM at the wheel of a Vantage GT3 Evo when he tackles the series this year as part of a two-car Comtoyou Racing lineup.
The Dane has a close affinity to the series after his father Kurt won the 1986 title at the wheel of a Rover Vitesse, and has spent the past three seasons competing in Lamborghini machinery, including taking a victory at the Norisring in 2024 with the SSR Performance squad.
Thiim, who was recently revealed as part of Comtoyou’s GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS attack, will now tackle the full season in an Aston for the first time and will be paired with the continuing Nicolas Baert.
“It’s no secret that I have wanted to race in DTM all my life because, when I was a kid, it was the center of my universe when my father raced in it,” said two-time FIA World Endurance Championship GT title winner Thiim.
“I’ve already achieved that ambition, but when the DTM moved to an-all GT3 platform, I’ve wanted to represent Aston Martin in the series. So, this is another dream come true for me.
“Carrying the famous wings on my chest in the DTM is very special, and personal, to me. DTM is one of the hardest and most fiercely-contested championships in the world, and its intensity is similar to Formula 1 in this regard.
“I’ve won with Vantage in so many different arenas, I can hardly wait to try and do it again with Aston Martin in the DTM.”
Last year marked Aston’s first presence in the DTM since the GT3 era began in 2021 but it finished bottom of the manufacturers’ standings with a best result of seventh achieved by Gilles Magnus.
The brand’s head of endurance motorsport Adam Carter said he was “proud” that Comtoyou had again chosen to field Astons in the series.
“Equally, we are delighted to be able to contribute Nicki Thiim’s outstanding talent and undoubted experience to this program,” he added.
“Aston Martin Racing wishes Comtoyou Racing, Nicki and Nicolas Baert every success in this venture.”
