Jeremy Fletcher held off Spike Kohlbecker and Will Robusto to take his first career victory in the second Toyota GR Cup North America race of the weekend at the Grand Prix of Arlington on Sunday morning.
Fletcher, in the pole-sitting No. 22 Copeland Motorsports Toyota GR86 Cup car, dropped back to fifth early in the running after being forced to lift off after Kohlbecker took an early race lead in his TechSport entry.
However, a well-timed full course caution for the No. 51 BSI Racing machine of Massimo Sunseri who went into the barriers bunched the field back up.
While Robusto took the lead shortly after the restart, he got passed by Fletcher just moments before another yellow, for the No. 85 Eagles Canyon w/ Fast Track Toyota of Ava Schletz, which also collected teammate Carter Wilson into the barriers.
It set up an 11-minute shootout to the finish, which saw Kohlbecker regain second and pressure Fletcher in the closing minutes, ending up just 0.551 seconds behind at the checkered flag.
Robusto, in the No. 2 RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate entry completed the podium in the hard-fought contest, ahead of teammate Max Schweid and TechSport’s Parker DeLong, who completed the top-five.
Second-generation drivers Beltre Curtis and Jenson Sofronas were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Eagles Canyon w/ Fast Track’s Patrick Brunson, meanwhile, swept the weekend in the the WWEX Group Legends class, finishing 13th overall, improving on his 16th place result on Saturday.
Neither Paityn Feyen or Paul Wilson started the race following race ending crashes on Saturday.
The race ran to the full scheduled 45-minute duration after the decision was made to start 15 minutes earlier, amid a compressed Sunday schedule due to a high wind warning.
