Trappett Brothers to Face Off at Sydney Motorsport Park

Patrick Trappett will join brother Josh on the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia grid for the penultimate round of the inaugural season at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Trappett recently tested his brother’s Rivers Insurance-backed Ford Mustang Dark Horse R at SMP and will now debut at the same circuit this weekend.

Having honed his skills in the competitive PMP Excel Cup, 22-year-old Trappett will drive the same Dark Horse used by Aaron Cameron to win the very first Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia race at Phillip Island in April.

It will feature a livery matching that of brother Josh’s and will be run out of the growing RM Race Cars stable.

Trappett has attended all previous rounds supporting Josh, who has scored two podiums already at The Bend and on home turf at Queensland Raceway.

“It’s been great to be there to watch Josh develop and the RM Race Cars team get around him was the perfect toe-in-the-water experience to allow me to join in a second entry,” said Trappett.

“Before my recent test in Sydney, I hadn’t driven the car nor been to the track before, so I’ll be easing in and just trying to make sure I get through my first round.

“I’m excited to learn the intricacies of the category and see how we go moving forward into a full-season program next year.

“It’s a massive change from Excels to Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia, but the Dark Horse R was really nice in putting down its power making it predictable to drive. This allowed me to focus on other areas such as getting used to the Michelin slick tire and the weight of the package.

“Having Josh in the field gives me a good yardstick of where I’m at, especially during the race weekend. Josh has been fantastic in enabling the deal for me to race and putting it together, which I appreciate.

“We definitely see a future in the category and having watched it first hand this year, the way Ford is backing it alongside the likes of Michelin, it’s fantastic.

“The category is building and we see these two rounds as a great build into the future.”

A stacked field including recently announced debutants Trappett and Team Thryv/Race for a Cure’s Ben Kavich will tackle the penultimate round of the maiden Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia season at SMP on September 18-20.
