Porsche has confirmed that it will take part in next year’s Nürburgring 24 as a two-car factory effort with the new 911 GT3 R.

The announcement was made Saturday evening during its “Night of Champions” event in Weissach.

Porsche Team Manthey will run the pair of GT3 cars, each to be driven by four factory drivers, with the lineups yet to be announced.

It will mark the German manufacturer’s first full-factory effort in the twice-around-the-clock German endurance classic in many years.

The car, which was unveiled during this year’s Nürburgring 24 weekend, made its competition debut in a VLN round in October, finishing third overall with Nick Tandy and Fred Makowiecki at the wheel.

Additional customer 911 GT3 Rs are also expected for the race, which takes place on May 28-29.

The Nürburgring event is likely to be the only full factory GT3 effort from Porsche next year, as Head of Porsche Motorsport Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser has ruled out a works effort at the 24 Hours of Spa.
