In this week’s Sportscar365 Weekend Racing Roundup we shift back our focus to Europe and the Nürburgring and Monza in particular. In Germany it was time for the second round of VLN, while in Italy the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe supported the Blancpain Endurance Series.

Frikadelli Racing secured its first win of the 2014 VLN season in the 39. DMV 4-Stunden-Rennen on Saturday. In a race that was split into two parts, the Porsche 997 GT3 R of Patrick Pilet, Klaus Abbelen, Sabine Schmitz and Patrick Huisman finished first.

Huisman started the race from fifth place, but took the lead in the opening lap. The Dutchman managed to pull away, before the race was red flagged after 50 minutes as the barriers at Pflanzgarten had to be replaced following a big accident. The drivers involved walked away uninjured.

After the repairs had been finished, the race was restarted and despite finishing behind the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra of Marcel Fässler and Markus Winkelhock, the aggregate time was more than enough for Frikadelli to win the race.

Race – 1. Frikadelli Racing (Pilet/Huisman/Schmitz/Abbelen) Porsche 911 GT3 R, 2. Phoenix Racing (Fässler/Winkelhock) Audi R8 LMS ultra, 3. Falken Motorsports (Ragginger/Imperatori) Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe
The sixth season of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo got underway at Monza this weekend. Autocarrozzeria Imperiale and Bonaldi Motorsport went home with a win each.

On Saturday it was Andrea Palma who led the 25-car strong field from start to finish and kept experienced single-seater drivers Edoardo Piscopo and Milos Pavlovic behind him at the finish. 2011 FIA Formula 2 champion Mirko Bortolotti finished the race in third place.

In race two Piscopo and Pavlovic secured the win in a race full of drama. Bortolotti passed Pavlovic and Palma at the start and teammate Varvaroussis was still leading as the pit window closed. He was soon passed by Piscopo and Palma and eventually dropped behind charging Dutchman Jeroen Mul. A puncture for Palma on the last lap cost the Italian a podium finish and promoted Mul to second, having started from 10th overall.

Race 1 – 1. Autocarrozzeria Imperiale (Palma), 2. Bonaldi Motorsport (Piscopo/Pavlovic), 3. Bonaldi Motorsport (Bortolotti/Vavaroussis).

Race 2 – 1. Bonaldi Motorsport (Piscopo/Pavlovic), 2. Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team Germany (Mul), 3. Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter (Leimer/Cochet)
