Matthieu Vaxiviere could be forced out of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after sustaining back injuries in an accident in last weekend’s World Series by Renault round at Monaco.
The 19-year-old Frenchman, who drives for Prospeed Competition in the FIA World Endurance Championship, suffered a fractured T5 vertebra at the wheel of his Lotus WSR entry.
Vaxiviere, who is undertaking a dual-season program in WSR and the FIA WEC, was scheduled to make his Le Mans debut in Prospeed’s No. 75 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with Emmanuel Collard and Francois Perrodo.
No official word has been given on Vaxiviere’s status for the race by the team, although with all rookie drivers required to take part in next weekend’s test day, it would appear unlikely that he would be cleared to drive in time.
