Porsche has revealed plans for a ‘Farewell Tour’ for its FIA World Endurance Championship-winning 919 Hybrid, which saw its competition run come to an end this year.
The German manufacturer’s factory LMP1 program netted three Drivers’ and Manufacturer World Championships as well as a hat-trick of overall victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including this year’s title by Brendon Hartley, Timo Bernhard and Earl Bamber.
While the car or team will not return to the WEC next year, it will still “lap the globe” in non-WEC events and “outside the regulations of usable energy amounts” according to the automaker.
It’s understood the 919 Hybrid could be prepped for record-breaking attempts utilizing its hybrid technology, although a detailed program will not be announced until early next year.
The car will be retired to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart at the end of next year, to take its place alongside other legendary machinery from the German manufacturer.
