Additional photos of BMW’s new-for-2022 GT3 challenger have been revealed during a presentation of both the road-going and race car versions of the new BMW M4 Thursday at the Red Bull Ring.

Both cars, which remain in prototype form, were revealed in the run-up to this weekend’s MotoGP race, which the German manufacturer is sponsoring.

It was confirmed during the presentation that the M4 GT3 is powered by a newly developed straight six-cylinder twin-turbo engine.

Both road and race car will use “M TwinPower Turbo technology” and a “high-revving concept” according to BMW, which says the engine has been developed from “performance characteristics taken directly from motorsport.”

The official world premiere is planned for next month.

“I can’t wait to take the BMW M4 GT3 onto the starting grid,” said BMW factory driver Philipp Eng. “The BMW M4 GT3 will already take part in its first race next year and will be able to prove how it performs under competitive conditions.

“I am sure that it has what it takes to continue the long-standing and successful tradition of BMW M vehicles.”

Customer deliveries of the race car are slated for 2022, despite what’s believed to be a delay of the updated GT3 regulations to 2023 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
