In the run-up to GM’s flagship race weekend, as title sponsor of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix on May 29-31, Chevrolet has announced its new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be revealed May 16 on Belle Isle.

The sixth generation car, referred to at the moment as Camaro SIX, will replace the Camaro Z/28 version currently on the market.

“This will be an event Camaro fans will not want to miss,” said Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager.

“This is only the sixth time we have introduced an all-new Camaro. We wanted to share the moment with the customers and fans who have helped make Camaro both America’s favorite performance car for the past five years, and a cultural icon since 1967.”

GM has listed a series of teaser dates on its 2016 Camaro launch page to give sneak peeks of the car before the full reveal, which is free and open to the public. More information can be found on the Camaro SIX website.

The current generation Z/28.R competes in IMSA’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge GS class, and has also been introduced to the Pirelli World Challenge GTS class this season.
