HTP Motorsport dominated the opening practice session for the Total 24 Hours of Spa this morning, claiming the top position in a session that ended early after Parente crashed heavily.

The No. 84 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 of Harold Primat, Nico Verdonck and Bernd Schneider topped the time charts, with a fastest time of 2:22.094, over three tenths of a second quicker than the No. 66 BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS BMW Z4 GT3.

Jazeman Jaafar, Maximilian Götz and Maximilian Buhk finished the session in third place, ahead of two Audi R8 LMS ultras.

The session was red-flagged twice. Andrew Danyliw crashed his AF Corse Ferrari at turn 13, while Alvaro Parente had a violent crash at Pouhon. The No. 98 ART Grand Prix McLaren was severely damaged and the session was stopped and not resumed due to barrier damage.

Parente was uninjured in the crash, the team began to work on the car as soon as it had returned to the pit box.

RESULTS: Free Practice
