Romeo Ferraris: TCR Success Will Help Alfa ETCR Sales

Cerruti: Romeo Ferraris’ TCR success will help win over customers to the Giulia ETCR…

Romeo Ferraris expects its privateer Alfa Romeo ETCR car to be easier to sell than its TCR car was because the Italian company has now proven its ability to compete against big manufacturers.

The company’s operations manager Michela Cerruti says the success of Romeo Ferraris’ Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR will pay off in convincing prospective customers of the new Giulia ETCR.

Its Giulia ETCR is the third car built to WSC Group’s new electric touring car platform but the first from an independent company, following on from Cupra and Hyundai’s efforts.

Despite its rivals so far having backing from large manufacturers, with SEAT’s Cupra brand part of the Volkswagen Group, Cerruti is confident that the global success of Romeo Ferraris’ TCR car has proven the company’s worth.

“At the beginning with the Giulietta, it was really difficult to sell a car when teams could have cars built by big manufacturers like Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen Group and so on,” Cerruti explained to e-racing365.

“It was a little bit more difficult for people to trust us as a small independent.

“Once that we showed the car was competitive, we have more or less 20 cars around the world, and for us that is a very big number.

“This time, we start from a different point because we have already showed we can be very competitive and we know how to build a race car properly.

“I think from that point of view, we will struggle a little bit less.”

Cerruti’s confidence in the Giulia is clear, and she expects the unique design, which is based on a considerably larger car than TCR cars, petrol or electric, usually use, to become a fan favorite.

“The Giulia is absolutely beautiful and very fascinating,” she said.

“I think it is the most beautiful and fascinating car in ETCR and I don’t say that because we build it, but I think it really is.

“Alfa Romeo has a lot of followers and lovers all around the world, so it could have good success. I think it will be as competitive as the others.”

An ETCR launch event will take place in Paris on Wednesday, where details of the platform’s first races are expected to be announced.
