Trenton Estep once again recorded the fastest time in the first dry practice for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge LP Building Solutions 120 at The Glen for YRB Racing.
The Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Evo once again paced the field despite stopping in the Turn 9 runoff as the checkered flag flew. Estep also notched the fastest time in all three sectors around Watkins Glen International.
Michael Cooper’s time put the No. 44 Ibiza Farm Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 in second.
He finished the practice 0.289 seconds off of Estep’s time. The team looks to continue their momentum following a win at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course that tied the outfit for second in the GS standings.
CSM rounded out the top three with Morgan Burkhard delivering a 1:54.251 lap. The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport finished the rain-soaked first session on Thursday in sixth.
Three drivers in the TCR category broke the 1:55 bracket in the session. The class winners from Mid-Ohio led the way with LP Montour setting the fastest lap past the halfway point.
Tyler Gonzalez finished the hour 0.343 seconds behind Montour in his No. 99 CUPRA Leon VZ TCR. Celso Neto once again posted a top-three time with the third best TCR lap of Friday morning.
No yellow or red flags were displayed for the session. The No. 24 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 and the No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 EVO received drive-through penalties for track limits.
Bill Auberlen earned a mechanical black flag on his No. 38 ST Racing by Random Vandals car. The other drive-through penalties were for pit lane infractions.
Pilot Challenge action resumes at Watkins Glen for qualifying at 5:10 p.m. EST.
