Cameron Lawerence made a bold move around Billy Johnson to take the lead and eventual win in Saturday’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Lawrence took the No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 to a 27.234-second victory over the No. 50 Hattori Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO of Johnson, who made a late-race pit stop for fuel.

Johnson’s co-driver Parker Thompson held control of the two-hour contest, which ran caution-free, from pole until pitting with 1 hour and seven minutes to go.

The debuting team’s hopes of a caution were dashed when Johnson, from second, came in for a splash of fuel in the final ten minutes.

It gave clear sailing to Lawerence and co-driver Robert Megennis, who picked up their first victory of the season as the only leading GS car to complete the race on a single-stop strategy.

The No. 78 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Marc Miller and Michael Di Meo appeared to be en route to a third place finish before fading to fifth at the line, potentially out of fuel despite making a late-race splash.

Robin Liddell took third at the line in the No. 71 Rebel Rock Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R alongside co-driver Frank De Pew, ahead of the No. 19 Van der Steur Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in fourth.

Late-race contact between Mikey Taylor and Robert Wickens put the No. 17 Unitronic/JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi RS 3 LMS TCR into the TCR class lead and eventual win.

The contact, which came two laps from the finish, became irrelevant, though, as Wickens pitted his No. 33 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai Elantra N TCR for fuel moments later.

Taylor shared top class honors with pole-sitter Chris Miller, marking the duo’s first class win of the season.

Wickens and Harry Gottsacker were classified second, with the No. 98 BHA Hyundai completing the class podium in third.

RESULTS: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120
