Nico Jamin has swept the weekend in IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda, with overall victory in Friday’s incident-filled race at Sebring.
The ANSA Motorsports Ligier JS P3 crossed the line 0.665 seconds ahead of the No. 14 Kelly Moss Road and Race Norma M30 of Colin Thompson, under full-course caution, following a late-race six-car pileup.
It came in another dominant flag-to-flag run for the Mazda Road to Indy star, who led all 18 laps.
Thompson, rebounding from mechanical issues in Thursday’s opening round was more than six seconds behind Jamin prior to the first caution for the No. 25 JDC Motorsports Ligier of Joel Janco, who slammed into the Turn 17 barriers.
Janco’s accident resulted in a lengthy 15-minute caution, prior to the race-ending yellow with eight minutes to go for a multi-car accident involving LMP3 and MPC cars.
“The car was just awesome,” Jamin said. “I could do whatever I want. I controlled the race.
“When the caution came out I was still pretty comfortable because I knew we’d have a strong car on the restart and we were able to pull a pretty good gap. Then another yellow came out.
“I wish we had more green time for the fans, but I hope they still enjoyed it.”
The No. 12 Performance Tech Motorsports Ligier of Andreas Gutierrez completed the overall and LMP3 podium in third, with Lonnie Pechnik again taking LMP3 Masters honors with a fourth place finish.
Kyle Masson, meanwhile, scored top class honors in MPC, in his No. 18 Performance Tech Elan DP02, coming home 5th overall, and also completing the weekend sweep.
Twenty of the 25 cars finished on the lead lap, which like Race 1, again saw a number of close calls and incidents between the two classes.
RESULTS: Race 2
