Cadillac Confirms WTR Return for 2025

Wayne Taylor Racing will return under the Cadillac umbrella next year, with the luxury automaker having confirmed a two-car factory program with the team for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Officially announced on Thursday, the widely expected switch will see the Indianapolis-based team field two Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh cars in the GTP class beginning with January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

It will be known as Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing.

They will join the single-car Action Express Racing-run effort, now under the Cadillac Whelen banner.

“Cadillac Racing is thrilled to run an expanded three-car factory program in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship,” said GM President Mark Reuss.

“Wayne Taylor Racing and Action Express Racing bring decades of proven racing and technical expertise, and we look forward to continued success on the track.”

Cadillac WTR, which will remain part of Andretti Global despite the branding shift, replaces Chip Ganassi Racing, which announced its departure from the manufacturer in March.

WTR, which holds longtime ties to GM, previously ran Cadillac DPis from 2017-20 prior to a switch to Acura.

It was announced in June that Meyer Shank Racing will take over the two-car Acura ARX-06 effort beginning next year.

“I am so glad to return to the Cadillac family,” said WTR team principal Wayne Taylor.

“Having teamed with GM for so many years, with so many wins and championships, and having enjoyed such a fantastic relationship with them, this global program we have put together could not be more thrilling.

“We have exciting things coming and I look forward to discussing our commercial relationships in the coming months.”

Drivers have yet to be announced for either team although WTR’s lineup is expected to remain largely unchanged from its current roster of Ricky and Jordan Taylor, Filipe Albuquerque and Louis Deletraz as its full-season drivers.

Action Express, meanwhile, will need to replace the departing Pipo Derani and Tom Blomqvist, with Formula 2 star Frederik Vesti believed to be a candidate as the team’s third driver for the Michelin Endurance Cup races.

Earl Bamber, meanwhile, has been linked to a possible dual WeatherTech Championship/FIA World Endurance Championship role, replacing Derani, alongside the returning Jack Aitken in the No. 31 Cadillac.

The Kiwi declined to comment on the matter when reached by Sportscar365.
