IMSA has released the 2023 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule, featuring 11 events and confirming the elimination of Mid-Ohio and Detroit from the calendar.

Announced during Friday’s ‘State of the Sport’ address at Road America, the schedule features six events where all five classes will be in action.

In addition to the four Michelin Endurance Cup rounds at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, the Road America race and recently confirmed Indianapolis Motor Speedway event will have GTP, LMP2, LMP3, GTD Pro and GTD cars all in action.

Notably absent is Detroit, which will instead serve as a round of the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class in the return to the downtown streets with the NTT IndyCar Series.

It’s understood scheduling around the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which has the Le Mans Test Day on the same June 2-3 weekend, was one of the primary factors.

Several events have had date changes as well, including Laguna Seca, which takes over the former Mid-Ohio slot, and both the rounds at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Lime Rock Park being pushed back by a week.

The season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans, meanwhile, will take place two weeks later than this year.

Of note, IMSA has not yet announced the series that will join the NASCAR Cup Series on the streets of Chicago on July 1.
