Honda SUPER GT and Super Formula star Kakunoshin Ohta will get his first taste of Acura’s ARX-06 LMDh car in next month’s IMSA-sanctioned test at Daytona International Speedway.
The Japanese driver has been confirmed for the Nov. 15-17 test, which will mark the first public outing of Acura Meyer Shank Racing’s pair of Acura GTP entries ahead of the 2025 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
Ohta, 25, dovetailed a season of Super Formula with Docomo Team Dandelion Racing alongside a GT500-spec Honda Civic Type-R GT for Astemo Real Racing this year, in what marked his second season of SUPER GT competition.
It will mark the first time a Japanese Honda-contracted driver will have driven the ARX-06, which has been designed and built by Honda Racing Corporation USA and ORECA.
Ohta recently spent time on HRC US’ simulator in Indianapolis to prepare for the test.
“Using the simulator for preparation is very good for us,” he said. “But of course we love racing against the other team and drivers.
“This was my first time to HRC in Indianapolis to see this really sophisticated facility and the new simulator is great. This is not my first time to do the simulator as we have the same in Japan as well.
“I cannot wait to drive the car.”
Acura MSR has yet to confirm its driver lineup beyond its full season-pilots Colin Braun and Tom Blomqvist (No. 60) and Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly (No. 93).
