Van der Zande Goes to the Top in Practice 2 at Sebring

A late flyer by Renger van der Zande put the DPi title-contending Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R to the top of the time sheets in the second practice session of the weekend at Sebring International Raceway.

Van der Zande took his No. 10 Cadillac to a best lap of 1:47.478 late in Practice 2 to edge out the No. 5 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac of Sebastien Bourdais by 0167 seconds.

It led a Cadillac 1-2-3 sweep, with Pipo Derani third in the No. 31 Action Express Racing entry.

Times in the afternoon session tumbled, despite having started in damp conditions after light rain due to remnants of Tropical Storm Eta.

The No. 77 Mazda RT24-P of Oliver Jarvis held the top spot until the final ten minutes which saw the improvements from the Caddys.

Porsche maintained its 1-2 run in GT Le Mans, but with the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Laurens Vanthoor outpacing teammate Fred Makowiecki, with champions-elect Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia third in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.

GT Daytona, meanwhile, was led by a pair of Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos, with Steijn Schothorst recording a 2:02.352 lap time in the No. 11 Grasser Racing Team entry.

The Dutchman’s time as 0.098 seconds quicker than Bryan Sellers in the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing entry, with Jan Heylen third for Wright Motorsports and Porsche.

Mikkel Jensen topped LMP2 in the No. 8 Tower Motorsport by Starworks Oreca 07 Gibson, which stopped on track in the hands of John Farano, which brought out a quick red flag.

The third and final practice session is set for 6:15 p.m. ET.
