Gdovic Wins Incident-Filled Race 2 at VIR

Brandon Gdovic has claimed victory in the second Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race of the weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

The Precision Performance Motorports driver stayed out of trouble in Sunday’s 50-minute race that saw multiple incidents at the front of the pack.

Gdovic, in the No. 46 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo, emerged as the overall leader following the round of mid-race pit stops.

The No. 1 Prestige Performance/Wayne Taylor Racing entry of Stuart Middleton had pitted from the top position after the No. 16 Change Racing Lamborghini of Madison Snow was assessed a drive-through penalty for incident responsibility due to contact with the then-leading No. 13 ANSA Motorsports car of Sergio Jimenez on Lap 7.

Jimenez inherited the lead at the start after Pro-Am driver Leo Lamelas made contact with the pole-sitting No. 6 US RaceTronics Lamborghini of Jacob Eidson, spinning Eidson around.

It resulted in an early-race full-course caution and dropped Saturday’s race-winning Lamborghini to ninth at the time.

Gdovic crossed the line 12.238 seconds ahead of the No. 1 Prestige/WTR entry of Stevan McAleer, which was enough to take the win despite having a 0.912-second post-race time penalty due to not meeting the 81-second minimum pit stop time.

The No. 16 Change Racing Lamborghini of Madison Snow completed the overall podium, rebounding from his drive-through penalty.

Snow got around teammate Corey Lewis in the final moments of the race, pushing the No. 63 Change entry co-driven by his brother, McKay, to fourth overall. 

However, Lewis and McKay Snow still picked up Pro-Am class honors.

Danny Formal, driving solo in the No. 99 ANSA Lamborghini, completed the top-five overall, ahead of the sister No. 13 entry driven by Jimenez and Neil Alberico.

The No. 25 Prestige/WTR Lamborghini of Andrea Amici and Ashton Harrison, which missed the first race of the weekend due to an accident in qualifying, finished sixth overall and third in Pro-Am.

The pairing borrowed the No. 53 WTR car of Lance Willsey, which was withdrawn from today’s race.

Eidson and Steven Aghakhani were classified seventh overall and fourth in the Pro class after a slow pit stop for a right-rear tire change following the Turn 1 incident at the start.

Am class honors again went to the No. 29 Change Lamborghini of Victor Gomez while Matt Dicken ended up on top in LB Cup, breaking Randy Sellari’s run of class wins.
