Kyle Marcelli laid down the quickest time of the day for Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America competitors at Virginia International Raceway, in preparation for this weekend’s pair of 50-minute races.
Marcelli, in the No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO2, reeled off a best time of 1:46.350 in Friday’s second practice session to outpace teammate Ryan Norman by 0.255 seconds.
Jake Walker was third on the combined time sheets in his No. 77 Forty7 Motorsports machine, ahead of Pro-Am pace-setter Marc Miller in the No. 41 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini.
The No. 69 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini of Glenn McGee was quickest in the Am class, with Mark Wilgus topping the time charts in LB Cup in his No. 50 Forte Racing by US RaceTronics entry.
Both 45-minute sessions featured a pair of red flags.
An accident for the No. 34 TR3 Racing entry of Rogelio Perusquia brought out the first red, which was followed by Dominic Starkweather in the No. 12 Valkyrie Velocity machine going off in Turn 1 that turned into an early checkered flag on the session.
Practice 2 saw the No. 10 WTR Andretti Lamborghini of Graham Doyle spin off in Turn 14 and rejoin, while the session also ended under a red for a separate incident.
Qualifying is set to get underway Saturday at 9:25 a.m. EDT followed by Race 1 at 2:35 p.m., which will be streamed live on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
