Nelson Piquet Jr. will be competing this weekend at Circuit of The Americas, having been confirmed to make his Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America debut with ANSA Motorsports.
The ex-Formula 1 driver and ABB FIA Formula E champion will join fellow countryman Sergio Jimenez at the wheel of the team’s No. 44 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo in the Pro class.
While boasting previous sports car racing experience in prototypes with Rebellion Racing, Piquet Jr. has made only a handful of starts in GT machinery through the years.
Piquet Jr. has primarily spent the last two seasons in Stock Car Brasil since his exit from the all-electric Formula E series in 2019.
ANSA’s sister No. 13 Lamborghini will be driven by Nico Jamin and Scott Andrews this weekend.
The Florida-based team made its Super Trofeo debut last year, with Jimenez as part of the lineup, and has since expanded into a two-car Pro class operation for the start of the 2021 season.
Piquet Jr. is the latest high-profile name to join the single-make series, which features a nine-car Pro class field and a record 30 overall entries for this event, which will run as part of the NASCAR weekend at the Texan circuit.
