Spinelli, Liberati Claim VIR Poles

Loris Spinelli and Edoardo Liberati have claimed poles for this weekend’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America races at Virginia International Raceway.

Spinelli, in the No. 88 Taurino Racing by D Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, stormed to a 1:43.640 lap time in Qualifying 1.

It was 0.144 seconds quicker than Pro class points leader Danny Formal in the No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing entry, who ended up second.

Dario Capitanio qualified third for Race 1 in the No. 27 Dream Racing Motorsport Lamborghini, followed by Patrick Kujala in the No. 50 O’Gara Motorsport/Change Racing/USRT entry.

In Pro-Am, Patrick Liddy recorded the fifth quickest time overall in Q1 to claim top qualifying honors, while Charlie Martin claimed the LB Cup class pole for Race 1, qualifying ahead of Am class pole-sitter Shehan Chandrasoma.

Q2, meanwhile, ended early for an accident by the No. 13 O’Gara/Change/USRT Lamborghini of Ofir Levy in Turn 13.

Liberati’s 1:44.229 in the No. 27 Dream Racing Lamborghini was 0.243 seconds quicker than Billy Johnson, who will start Race 2 from second overall on the grid.

John Castro Dubets (Pro-Am), Nikko Reger (Am) and Anthony McIntosh (LB Cup) claimed class poles for Sunday’s 50-minute race.

Race 1 gets underway this afternoon at 2:05 p.m. ET with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
