Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson make it back-to-back wins at Sebring International Raceway to open the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season for Wayne Taylor Racing.
Ericsson led the field to green after a delayed race start before handing the No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO2 over to Formal, who survived a late restart to take the checkered flag under yellow ahead of Will Bamber’s No. 29 TR3 Racing machine.
Starting procedure penalties, applied post-race, changed the running order in the top-five, with initial third-palced finisher Nick Persing falling to ninth, and Pro-Am front-runners Kiko Porto and Nick Monteiro dropping to fifth in-class in their No. 81 RAFA Racing Lamborghini, despite crossing the finish line first.
With penalties applied, Jaden Conwright and Scott Huffaker were elevated to third overall in their World Speed Lamborghini.
Meanwhile, Cameron Lawrence and Werner Neugebauer delivered RAFA Racing a fourth-place finish, with ANSA’s Enzo Geraci and Colin Queen rounding out the top-five.
Reardon Racing emerged victorious in Pro-Am after the starting penalty for the No. 81 machine was applied at the checkered flag, delivering Darius Trinka and Tadas Karlinskas their first win of the season, sixth overall.
The No. 67 TR3 Lamborghini was runner-up in class with Jason Hart and Conrad Geis at the wheel.
WTR’s Graham Doyle makes it back-to-back Am class wins with Glenn McGee while Nick Groat doubled-up on the weekend with a late dash to an LB Cup win.
Mark Brummond made his way past Rocky T Bolduc before the pit window opened to take the LB Cup lead, but both drivers were passed by a charging Groat, who took the class victory for One Motorsports.
The field fell under caution with just over 15 minutes remaining when Christopher Tasca heavily collided with the tire barriers at Turn 1. Tasca left the car under his own power after losing the rear of his No. 88 Forty7 Motorsports machine.
The 50-minute contest ended under caution after a late spin for Anthony McIntosh caused his No. 69 WTR entry to end up backward in the Turn 15 tire barriers on the final lap.
The race start was delayed after David Hodge spun and ground to a halt on track at Turn 7 on the formation lap, requiring recovery in the No. 27 Alliance Racing Lamborghini he shared with Cole Kleck.
Hodge had moved into the No. 27 car after his original No. 25 Alliance entry was withdrawn from both of this weekend’s races, along with the No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports entry of Andy Lee and Slade Stewart.
