Trenton Estep claimed a flag-to-flag victory in the first Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands race of the weekend on the streets of Toronto in a commanding performance.
The MDK Motorsports driver resisted an early challenge from Parker Thompson to lead all 34 laps in the 40-minute contest.
Estep became the first American driver to win overall in series’ competition.
He finished 3.112 seconds ahead of the No. 3 Kelly-Moss Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Kay van Berlo, with the sister No. 53 entry of Riley Dickinson completing the overall podium.
Travis Wiley scored a career-best fourth place finish in the No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche, with Varun Choksey completing the top-five overall and in the Pro class.
Thompson came home seventh, unable to recover when he ran wide into a runoff area while battling with Estep for the lead on the opening lap.
Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 65 Kelly-Moss entry of Efrin Castro, who held off the Mark Motors Racing Porsche of Marco Cirone, who finished second in class.
The No. 99 Kelly-Moss entry of Alan Metni completed the class podium in third.
The Am class was determined shortly after the drop of the green flag when the No. 57 Wright Motorsports Porsche of John Goetz pitted with issues, handing the win to Bill Smith in the only other car in class this weekend.
It came despite Smith clobbering the tire barriers on the second-to-last lap.
The second and final race of the weekend gets underway Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET with live coverage on Peacock and PorscheCarreraCup.us.
