Jason Hart claimed a breakthrough victory in the first Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America race of the weekend at Watkins Glen International, benefitting from misfortune by pole-sitter Will Martin.

Hart took his No. 20 MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to a 2.745-second win over Riley Dickinson in Friday’s 40-minute contest that ran caution-free.

It did not come without incidents, however.

Having started from his first career series pole, Martin dashed into an early lead as second-placed qualifier Riley Dickinson dropped to third after running wide though Turn 1.

Martin appeared to be en route to his second win of the season until slowing on Lap 9 with a suspected left-front suspension issue to his No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche.

It handed the lead to Hart, who extended his advantage over Dickinson to claim his first career series win in Porsche’s premier single-make series.

The No. 17 McElrea Racing Porsche of Tom Sargent completed the overall and Pro class podium in third, followed by Alex Sedgwick’s No. 98 PT Autosport/JDX Racing entry in fourth.

Dan Clarke completed the top-five in the No. 64 Nolasport Porsche, meanwhile.

Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 56 Topp Racing Porsche of Jeff Mosing, who became the fifth different winner of the season in the highly competitive class.

Mosing edged out the No. 65 Kellymoss Porsche of Efrin Castro at the line by 0.156 seconds.

John Goetz, meanwhile, rebounded from an accident in qualifying to take the Am class win by a mere 0.237 seconds over the second-placed No. 10 MDK entry of Scott Noble.

The No. 43 MDK Porsche of Mark Kvamme, who lost his class pole due to a ride height infraction and started from the rear of the 35-car starting field, spun on the second lap, but rebounded to finish third in class.

Race 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 12:20 p.m. EDT with live coverage on PorscheCarreraCup.us, Peacock and IMSA.tv.
