Will Martin has scored his first career Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America pole, having narrowly edged Riley Dickinson for the top spot for this afternoon’s race at Watkins Glen International.

The JDX Racing driver reeled off a best lap of 1:47.695 in his No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to outpace Dickinson’s Kellymoss entry by 0.036 seconds.

Both drivers made late-session improvements following the resumption of the session due to an accident by John Goetz in the Am class No. 57 Wright Motorsports Porsche in Turn 1 with 12 minutes remaining.

It resulted in a six-minute shootout to the checkered flag that saw times tumble at the top of the leaderboard.

Jason Hart will start Race 1 in third in his No. 20 MDK Motorsports Porsche, followed by Michael McCann in fourth and the No. 17 McElrea Racing entry of Tom Sargent, who completed the top-five.

Sargent had been the only driver other than Dickinson to score a pole this year prior to Martin’s top qualifying effort.

Efrin Castro took his No. 65 Kellymoss Porsche to the class pole in Pro-Am, while Mark Kvamme wound up on top again in the Am class in his MDK entry.

Race 1 gets underway at 1:25 p.m. EDT, with the second 40-minute round of the weekend scheduled for Saturday at 12:20 p.m.. Live coverage of both races will be available on Peacock, IMSA.tv and PorscheCarreraCup.us featuring commentary from IMSA Radio.
