Kellymoss driver Aaron Jeansonne took his first Porsche Carrera Cup North America race win in the second of two rounds for the single-make series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday.
Jeansonne, who retook the rookies’ points lead with his overall podium finish in Race 1, led the field from pole for the second day in a row with Friday-winner Zachary Vanier behind in second and Pro class points leader Ryan Yardley in third.
However, race control swiftly repositioned the No. 9 JDX Racing driver behind his Yardley for “incorrect passing” in the opening laps.
The Kellymoss driver controlled a small gap at the head of the field for the duration of the 40-minute sprint contest to solidify his first series win in the No. 24 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car by 0.981 seconds over Yardley on the same weekend where he scored his first career pole.
Jeansonne becomes the seventh different race winner across the 12 rounds of the Carrera Cup North America season so far this year.
Vanier took his No. 9 Porsche to a podium finish ahead of Kellymoss’ Riley Dickinson, who charged in the final minutes to put pressure on the JDX driver.
The top four finished a comfortable margin up the road from Topp Racing’s Tyler Maxson, who was classified fifth overall.
James Sofronas picked up the Pro-Am win in the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche in 13th place overall after taking the green flag in 20th position and third in class.
The No. 39 ACI Porsche of John Jodoin was spun by Alan Metni’s No. 99 machine, who was leading in Pro-Am at the time, earning the Kellymoss driver a drive-through penalty and dropping him down the order.
Scott Blind completed a clean sweep of the Masters class in Indianapolis for Ruckus Racing with his Saturday victory and provisionally clinched the class drivers’ title with four rounds of the season remaining by taking the green flag.
Jimmy Llibre was looped around after battling with Maxson through the first corner on Lap 1, drawing the eyes of the stewards for a review of the incident.
Following a spin at Turn 4, Chris Bellomo took to pit lane after being handed a mechanical black flag. GMG’s Patrick Mulcahy survived a Turn 1 spin and continued on in the No. 54 Porsche.
A late-race lockup and spin for Sabre Cook at Turn 12 prompted a trip down pit lane for the JDX driver.
RESULTS: Race 2
