Maxson Seizes Pole for Race 1 at Road America

Tyler Maxson seized pole position for the opening race of Porsche Carrera Cup North America round at Road America in his No. 77  Topp Racing Porsche 911 Cup.

The points leader set a 2:07.587 lap time, which was 0.296 seconds faster than teammate Cole Kleck best effort in the No. 78 Porsche.

Kellymoss driver Aaron Jeansonne claimed third place on the Race 1 grid.

Callum Hedge had set the pace early on, but was pipped to the pole time by Maxson late in the session.

Maxson’s chart-topping lap was followed by a red flag for an off-track moment for Patrick Mulcahy, which severely limited the time Hedge had to respond to Maxson’s pole challenge.

Hedge was unable to improve on his early lap time and eventually finished the session in fourth place.

The top-five was completed by the No. 40 ACI Racing entry of Janne Stiak.

Scott Blind snatched pole in the Masters class in the No. 45 Ruckus Racing Porsche.

Pro-Am pole went to Josh Conley in the No. 29 Kellymoss car after Mulcahy – his only competitor in the class for this weekend – lost his two fastest lap times because he brought out the red flag.

The grid for the third round of the weekend, which is meant to make-up for the postponed Round 6 at Miami International Autodrome in May, will be determined by that race’s original grid.

As a result, Hedge will be on pole alongside Stiak, with Jeansonne and Maxson completing the second row.

Additionally, only the cars which were due to enter the postponed race in Miami will be permitted to compete in the make-up race, meaning there will be just 18 cars on the grid instead of the 22 entered in this weekend’s regular races.

Friday will see action from both of 40-minute races initially planned for this event, with Race 1 at 10:25 a.m. CST and Race 2 later in the day at 2:45 p.m. CST.

The additional make-up round is set to start at 8:50 a.m. CST on Saturday

All three races will be streamed on Peacock, as well as on Porsche Motorsport North America and IMSA’s YouTube channels.
