Maxson Takes Commanding Race 1 Win at Road America

Tyler Maxson claimed another dominant win for Topp Racing in Race 1 of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America round at Road America.

The pole-sitter extended his championship advantage when he crossed the line with a healthy margin of 7.292 seconds to Aaron Jeansonne in the No. 24 Kellymoss Porsche 911 Cup.

This marked Maxson’s fifth win of the season.

Jeansonne had been caught in a back-and-forth dice with Callum Hedge for much of the race and held third place until the final lap when an issue for Hedge saw him drop down the order and hand second position to Jeansonne.

Hedge had mounted an aggressive challenge for the win for much of the second half of the 40-minute race, even claiming the fastest lap as he chased down Maxson for the lead.

The JDX Racing driver’s misfortune promoted Jared Thomas up to third place in the No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering Porsche.

Janne Stiak finished the race in fourth ahead of Maxson’s teammate Cole Kleck in fifth.

Kleck delivered a respectable recovery drive after falling down the order on the first lap.

The Masters class had been controlled by Rob Walker for much of the race but the JTR driver was handed a ten-second penalty for blocking late in the race which forced him to concede the class win.

As a result, Marco Cirone – points leader in Masters – took class victory in his No. 10 ACI Motorsports entry and extended his advantage to title rival Scott Blind.

Blind finished the race in second with Walker completing the podium in third place.

Patrick Mulcahy and ACI Motorsports claimed top honors in Pro-Am after Josh Conley – his only rival in the class this weekend – retired with damage mid-way through the race.

Despite Conley’s brush with the barriers, the race was entirely clear of cautions with constant green-flag running.

Race 2 of the weekend is expected to start later today at 2:45 p.m. CST.

An additional round is scheduled for Saturday at 8:50 a.m. CST. This race will make up for the cancelled Round 6 at Miami International Autodrome in May.
