Zachary Vanier broke through to claim his first Porsche Carrera Cup North America victory in an incident-filled second race of the weekend at the Miami International Autodrome.

Vanier took his No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race to a narrow 0.232-second win over teammate and pole-sitter Alex Sedgwick, who lost the lead at the start to the Canadian.

Sedgwick briefly retook the top spot in the final five-minute shootout to the finish but was forced to relinquish the position back to Vanier due to exceeding track limits.

It marked Vanier’s maiden Carrera Cup North America win in only his fourth start in the competitive one-make series.

Ryan Yardley completed the overall and Pro class podium in the No. 78 Topp Racing Performance Prosche, ahead of Gus Burton’s MDK Motorsports entry and the Michael Cooper-driven Baby Bull Racing Porsche.

Moisey Uretsky picked up his second career Pro-Am class win for Baby Bull while Mark Kvamme doubled up with top class honors in Masters to sweep the weekend in his MDK Porsche

More than half of the race was run behind the safety car following a multi-car pileup at the start that involved Jordan Wallace, Alan Metni, Michael Verhagen, Madeline Steward and Tom Collingwood.

It was followed by an accident by Dan Clarke, less than a lap after the resumption of racing, that resulted in barrier damage.

The race restarted with less than six minutes left on the clock, and saw further incidents on the temporary circuit located outside of Miami.

Race 1 winner Loek Hartog came home seventh in his Kellymoss Porsche and provisionally maintains his points lead entering next month’s rounds in Montreal, also alongside Formula 1.

RESULTS: Race 2
