Steven Aghakhani will make the move to prototype competition next year, having been confirmed with MLT Motorsports for the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge season.

The 20-year-old will pilot a Ligier JS P320 Nissan in the six-round season, which kicks off at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 in January.

“This new opportunity is incredibly thrilling and anticipated as I come off an interim period in motorsport,” Aghakhani said. “Now, with the support of MLT Motorsports, I am eager to hit the track and compete in the 2024 season.”

Team owner Dr. Michael Thompson added: “All of us at MLT Motorsports are thrilled to have Steven Aghakhani on board for the 2024 season.

“I started this team to help develop the next generation of drivers, and Steven is a perfect fit in many ways.

“He’s had a couple of great tests with us, and we look forward to helping him grow as a driver behind the wheel of the LMP3 this season.”

The Los Angeles native is best known for his success in Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, having contested the single-make series from 2019-21 with numerous wins and championships.

Aghakhani then made the move to Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS last year in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo before taking a year off from racing.

“I am looking forward to the challenges and triumphs that await us to win this season.” he said.

“I am holding myself to the highest standards as I represent my sponsors: Chartered International LLP, Raymond James and Associates, Shegerian and Associates, and Gotham.”

VP Challenge competition consists of LMP3 and GT4-spec machinery, which run under the GSX category, with events at Daytona, St. Petersburg, Mid-Ohio, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Virginia International Raceway and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
