Jack Aitken has said he would “like to be a part of” Cadillac’s FIA World Endurance Championship effort should the chance arise, amid speculation he could tackle a double program with the American manufacturer next season.

The 30-year-old British driver has been part of the Cadillac stable in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since 2023, initially as the Michelin Endurance Cup driver for Action Express Racing before stepping up to a full-time drive last year.

He has also been part of the lineup for the Whelen Engineering-backed team’s one-off invitational entry for each of the past editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA has a vacancy to fill in its WEC lineup for next year with Jenson Button having already revealed plans to end his full-time career upon the conclusion of the current season, and Aitken is thought to be a candidate to take the seat.

Should Aitken get the nod, it would mirror stablemate Earl Bamber’s double program across the WEC for JOTA and the WeatherTech Championship for Action Express.

“I’m always happy to drive the car and to drive as much as possible,” Aitken told Sportscar365. “But in regards to the seat and driver choices for those programs, that’s really up to GM. I’ll follow their lead.

“If there’s an opportunity where everyone would like that to happen and make it fit, I’d be more than happy to do more driving and more racing with Cadillac.

“That’s not really my business right now. I’m happy to just see what happens.”

Asked about the appeal of WEC, Aitken highlighted the depth of the current Hypercar field, which is set to feature nine manufacturers next year when Genesis debuts, but admitted he prefers the tracks and style of racing prevalent in North America.

“There’s always the draw of Le Mans,” he said. “It’s not a guarantee for us [at Action Express] as an IMSA team but we’ve been lucky enough to go the last three years.

“But Le Mans is a big draw and as a WEC team, I think you will always be better set up for Le Mans.

“There’s a draw in terms that they have a lot of cars competing. An 18-car grid is pretty impressive and there’s a deep amount of talent in the field. [In IMSA] we have a very competitive field but the numbers aren’t quite as big.

“Having said that, I prefer the tracks in IMSA. I like the style of the unforgiving nature of IMSA. It’s a lot harder racing in terms of the cautions bunching everything up and it becomes more of a knife fight in the end. It’s a different style.

“I like it in IMSA; I enjoy the paddock, I enjoy the country. But WEC is at a very high level and seeing the Cadillacs do well there, I would like to be a part of it if I could be.”

On top of his Cadillac commitments, Aitken has also competed in the DTM with Ferrari squad Emil Frey Racing for the last three seasons.

The 2026 DTM schedule does not feature any clashes with either the WEC or the WeatherTech Championship, but Aitken said that whether he continues in the German championship would ultimately be down to Cadillac.

“Cadillac is the program that I committed to first,” said Aitken. “It’s my priority in terms of the level of the championship and the car that we’re driving.

“Having said that, it goes back to if I can do more driving and more racing, I think it makes me a better driver.

“Cadillac have been very kind and generous in supporting me in doing things like DTM. If it doesn’t hurt, what I’m doing in each championship, if I can do both to a high level, then I’m happy to do it as well.

“It’s always going to be about making sure that there’s a good balance. I don’t want to do too much and then have to compromise anything.”
