2021 LMP2 class champions Robin Frijns and Ferdinand Habsburg will reunite in the same Team WRT lineup for this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship season.

The pair will team up with Sean Gelael in the No. 31 Oreca 07 Gibson, completing the Belgian team’s two-car operation for its third year in the prototype ranks.

Frijns, Habsburg and Charles Milesi won the LMP2 title two years ago, before Habsburg moved to the team’s additional No. 41 Oreca last season.

The Austrian teamed up with Rui Andrade and Norman Nato, while Frijns was joined by Gelael and Rene Rast.

“I am buzzing to embark on season number four with my WRT family,” said Habsburg.

“This level of continuity is rare in motorsport, and I am grateful for their trust in me. I’ve been part of WRT’s LMP2 project from the beginning, and I am excited to represent them in a historic season like this.

“I am stoked to be reunited with my good friend Robin and happy to share a car with my friend Sean.”

As previously announced, the No. 41 Oreca will continue to be driven by Andrade, who is now joined by WRT’s 2021 European Le Mans Series title winners Louis Deletraz and Robert Kubica.

Last season Frijns and Gelael finished second in the LMP2 standings with three victories, although their championship push was tainted by retirement at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Habsburg, meanwhile, ended up fourth in the points alongside Andrade and Nato after winning the 6 Hours of Monza.

No word has been given on whether Frijns will be fit to contest the season-opening 1000 Miles of Sebring next month after the Dutchman suffered a wrist injury that ruled him out of multiple Formula E rounds including this weekend’s race in Cape Town.

“Robin, Sean and Ferdi were already part of the WRT family, and for quite a long time in the case of Robin, who first drove for us in 2015, and they all have been instrumental in the success of our LMP2 program,” commented WRT team principal Vincent Vosse.

“Together with Rui, Louis and Robert, they make up a very strong set of drivers, which is an absolute must-have in such a competitive environment.

“We have high objectives and we can’t wait to be on track for the first round.”
