The race-contending No. 38 Hertz Team JOTA Cadillac V-Series.R of Sebastien Bourdais dropped out of contention of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after an unscheduled visit to the garage just past the halfway mark.
Bourdais, who took over the the previous race-leading Hypercar entry from Jack Aitken, pitted three laps into his stint, with power steering issues according to a Cadillac spokesperson.
The car sat in the garage for more than 15 minutes and has now been ruled out of winning the French endurance classic after a commanding early run.
The sister No. 12 Cadillac of Louis Deletraz continued to lead up front, amid the pit cycles.
Four drive-through penalties for a Full Course Yellow infringement, meanwhile, were handed down to the No. 101 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac, No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid, No. 2 JMR/TF Sport Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R and the No. 69 Team WRT BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
However, Ryo Hirakawa had yet to serve his penalty as the Japanese manufacturer fought the penalty, although a further notice from race control confirmed the Toyota must serve the sanction.
