Alessio Rovera will get his first official outing at the wheel of a Ferrari 499P this weekend, with the Ferrari factory driver having been nominated to test AF Corse’s No. 83 Hypercar entry in Sunday’s Bahrain rookie test.
The 30-year-old Italian, who serves as the reserve driver for Ferrari’s Hypercar squad, will turn laps at the Sakhir circuit in AF Corse’s satellite 499P.
Rovera has been part of Vista AF Corse’s Ferrari 296 GT3 lineup in the LMGT3 class and heads into the title-deciding weekend second in the class standings alongside co-drivers Simon Mann and Francois Heriau.
While Sunday’s test will not mark Rovera’s first laps in Ferrari’s LMH car, it will be his first in an officially-timed session.
“I’m happy to have the opportunity to put more miles on the 499P, for the first time in an official context such as the FIA WEC rookie test,” he said.
“I’m happy to be working with the guys at AF Corse and I’m sure we’ll do a good job, gathering useful data and information.”
AF Corse has yet to confirm the driver lineup for its yellow-colored No. 83 car next year.
