Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to Debut in 24H Portimao

Mercedes-AMG’s recently-unveiled GT3 Evo will make its race debut in next month’s Hankook 24 Hours of Portimao.

The updated car was revealed on Friday at the Nürburgring ahead of the 24-hour race at the ‘Green Hell’. 

Head of Mercedes-AMG customer racing Stefan Wendl told Sportscar365 that its pre-homologation race debut could come soon, running in either Creventic or VLN competition.

It was revealed on Thursday that the car’s debut will come in the 24H Portimao, held on July 5-7 as Round 5 of Creventic’s 24H Series.

The car will be entered under the Mercedes-AMG Team Driving Academy banner and shared by Maxi Buhk, Hubert Haupt, Kenneth Heyer, Charles Putman and Rik Breukers.

Buhk and Haupt formed part of the Black Falcon lineup that finished third in the N24 last weekend.

Mercedes-AMG follows in the footsteps of several other manufacturers by using Creventic and VLN races as part of its development process.

Porsche ran its 2019-spec GT3 car in a number of races during the second half of last year in preparation for an official debut in January at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
