Thomas Preining took pole position for the Sunday DTM race at Oschersleben, beating Tim Heinemann to lead a Porsche 1-2.

The Austrian driver reeled off a best lap of 1:21.347 aboard the No. 91 Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R.

He outpaced Heinemann’s No. 9 Toksport WRT Porsche by a mere 0.055 seconds as the Stuttgart marque locked out the front row.

Preining, a two-time race winner in DTM last year, had already secured provisional pole with a previous flyer that resulted in a time of 1:21.370, but extended his advantage over Heinemann as he took the checkered flag with his final attempt.

The second row was occupied by a pair of Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2s, with the No. 63 GRT Grasser Racing machine of Clemens Schmid third ahead of SSR Performance’s Mirko Bortolotti.

Dennis Olsen completed the top five ahead of Team75 Motorsport’s Ayhancan Güven and the second Toksport WRT entry of Christian Engelhart.

Maro Engel qualified eighth in the No. 48 Team Landgraf Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo despite spinning at Turn 2 earlier in the session.

Mercedes-AMG runners made up the remainder of the top ten, with Engel’s Landgraf stablemate Jusuf Owega ninth and Lucas Auer tenth for Team Winward.

The second DTM race of the weekend kicks off at 1:30 p.m. CEST (7:30 a.m. ET).

RESULTS: Qualifying 2
