ADAC GT Masters front-runner SSR Performance has announced a two-car program for next year’s DTM campaign that will herald the first full-time Porsche entry in the series.

The Munich-based team will bring a pair of Porsche 911 GT3 Rs to the DTM grid in 2022 after dipping its toe into the championship this year with a one-off entry for Michael Ammermueller at the Nürburgring.

Drivers for its maiden full stint in the championship have yet to be confirmed.

SSR drivers Ammermueller and Mathieu Jaminet finished second in the ADAC GT Masters standings this year, following Ammermueller and Christian Engelhart’s 2020 title success in the German two-driver GT3 competition.

The team’s commitment to the DTM, which also uses FIA GT3 machinery, marks a major scoop for the ITR-run series as it also gains a new full-time manufacturer in Porsche.

“For our young company, getting started in DTM is highly significant,” said team principal Stefan Schlund.

“As a result, it was particularly important for us to get a competitive line-up with two cars on the grid. I think that the next weeks and months will be very exciting.

“There is still a lot of work waiting for us prior to the start of the season at Portimão, but we like challenges.”

ITR managing director Benedikt Bohme added: “The entries from the teams for the 2022 DTM are developing in quite an enjoyable manner.

“We are on a good way to getting to experience an even more exciting season next year.

“Porsche is a legendary sports car brand, SSR Performance is already shining with remarkable titles even as a young team. Together, they will be raising the level of competition in DTM and the appeal for the fans.”
