The ABT Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 that finished second in last month’s Nürburgring 24 has been disqualified after failing post-race scrutineering.

The No. 84 Lamborghini crewed by Mirko Bortolotti, Luca Engstler and Patric Niederhauser was embroiled in a dramatic fight for second place in the final moments of the race, but had seemingly overcome a penalty for speeding during a Code 60 zone to pip the No. 35 Walkenhorst Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo of Mattia Drudi, Nicki Thiim and Christian Krognes to runner-up spot.

However, it was revealed at the end of last month that the Lamborghini’s position was in doubt after “irregularities” were found in the post-race checks, which included tests on a rolling road dyno for power measurement.

But now, in a hearing held on Friday, almost a month after the race, it has been deemed that the Lamborghini was producing excessive power beyond what was permitted by the balance of performance regulations.

It was therefore thrown out of the results and, with ABT deciding not to appeal the decision, the Aston Martin has been promoted to second after all.

Inheriting third place was the No. 99 ROWE Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Sheldon van der Linde, Dries Vanthor, Dan Harper and Max Hesse.

The Lamborghini was not scoring points towards the Intercontinental GT Challenge and therefore the results for the second round of the SRO Motorsports Group-run series are unaffected.

None of the other cars in the top SP9 class that were checked after the race were found to have any irregularities and the result has therefore now been declared final.
