SUPER GT has revealed a 42-car entry list for the upcoming season, featuring 15 cars in the top GT500 class and 27 in GT300.
The figure remains constant compared to the 2023 grid, although the withdrawals of both the Tsuchiya Engineering and Max Racing GT300 teams following the August Fuji round meant that the final four races featured only 40-car entries.
Of last year’s full-season entries, both Max Racing and Yogibo Racing are absent this year, offset by the arrival of two cars in the form of the No. 62 Helm Motorsports Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 and the No. 777 D’station Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo.
The No. 45 PONOS Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 is effectively a continuation of the No. 10 Gainer entry from last year, with Gainer continuing to run a single car, the No. 11, under its own banner.
The entry list effectively confirms that the No. 7 Team Studie BMW M4 GT3 will be present on the grid in 2024 despite the team not yet having made an official announcement.
Studie boss Yasuaki ‘Bob’ Suzuki told Sportscar365 last month that the team planned to file an entry despite delays finalizing the team’s program, including sponsorship and the use of a BMW factory driver.
Team Mach and JLOC had also yet to formally confirm their entries, but both were present in a recent GT300 test at Fuji Speedway.
Team Mach’s No. 5 Toyota 86 Mother Chassis has yet to have drivers confirmed after Kiyoto Fujinami and Yusuke Shiotsu drove for the squad at Fuji.
JLOC meanwhile maintains an unchanged lineup across its two Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2s, with Takashi Kogure and Yuya Motojima continuing as a duo in the No. 88 car and Kosuke Matsuura and Natsu Sakaguchi again pairing up in the No. 87.
Several other drivers have been confirmed by the entry list, including Yusuke Tomibayashi in the No. 6 Pacific Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, Kimiya Sato as a third driver in the No. 25 Tsuchiya Toyota GR Supra, and Takayuki Aoki and Takuya Otaki in the No. 360 Tomei Sports Nissan.
Miki Koyama was announced as a fourth driver for the No. 22 R’Qs Motor Sport Mercedes earlier in the week alongside Hisashi Wada, Masaki Jyonai and Masaki Kano.
The GT500 entry list features no significant changes from last year, with six Toyota GR Supras set to do battle with five Honda Civic Type R-GTs and four Nissan Zs.
All three manufacturers already announced their driver lineups for the coming season.
Following Michelin’s withdrawal from GT500, Bridgestone now supplies tires to 12 of the 15 cars, including the two NISMO-run Nissan Zs, while Yokohama supplies two cars (the No. 19 Bandoh Toyota and No. 24 Kondo Nissan) while Dunlop has a single entry, the No. 64 Nakajima Racing Honda.
Yokohama remains the dominant supplier in GT300 with 15 cars, with Dunlop supplying five, Bridgestone four and Michelin three.
The SUPER GT season is set to kick off at Okayama International Circuit on April 13-14.
