Luck Takes Overall Win in Shortened Race 1 at VIR

Charlie Luck has claimed overall victory in the first GT America powered by AWS race of the weekend at Virginia International Raceway, which came to an early end.

The Masters class driver of the No. 45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R took top overall honors following a lengthy full-course caution that turned into a red flag with seven minutes remaining.

SRO America officials elected to then show the checkered flag moments later.

Luck, who started on pole, lost the lead to the No. 70 inception racing McLaren 720S GT3 of Brendan Iribe on Lap 7, prior to Luck retaking the lead two laps later after a three-way battle involving Iribe and George Kurtz in the No. 04 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

Kurtz ultimately suffered a puncture after contact with another car, taking him out of contention shortly before the caution was waved with 22 minutes to go for an incident by Matt Dalton.

The race ultimately did not restart, with Luck declared the winner.

The No. 191 Rearden Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo of Jeff Burton finished third overall ahead of Kyle Washington’s No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche in fourth.

CJ Moses completed the top-five overall in the 40-minute race, which saw less than 20 minutes of green flag run time.

GT4 class honors went to the No. 119 Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Sean Quinlan, who led from flag-to-flag.

The second and final race of the weekend is on tap for Sunday at 9:10 a.m. ET.
