The Fanatec GT2 European Series has adjusted its 2021 season calendar with a round at Misano being introduced to replace Silverstone on the five-event schedule.
Silverstone was originally due to stage a pair of 50-minute standalone GT2 races during the Intelligent Money British GT Championship weekend on June 26-27.
However, GT2 European Series organizer SRO Motorsports Group has confirmed that round three will instead take place at Misano on the following July 2-4 weekend.
The Misano meeting will be headlined by Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup, which was already racing on the announced dates.
The change means that Silverstone will not host any of SRO’s European series this year.
The British Grand Prix venue had already been removed from the 2021 GTWC Europe Endurance Cup schedule due to logistical challenges associated with the Brexit process.
Silverstone remained on course to host a fixture of the new Fanatec GT Rebellion Series, which was to have its field integrated into the British GT grid for that round until the season was canceled due to a lack of entries.
The only visit from a European SRO championship to the United Kingdom this year is due to occur in late August when GTWC Europe Sprint Cup heads to Brands Hatch.
The first day of GT2 European Series track action at Misano will consist of two Free Practice sessions and qualifying.
Both races are due to take place on the second day, with the latter contest starting at 8:20 p.m. CEST to give the GT2 formula its first-ever night race.
