Westin Workman says he’s enjoying a “pretty seamless” transition into GT4 racing, with the Toyota Driver Development Program member so far undefeated in his time behind the wheel of the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2.

The 2025 GR Cup North America champion made the step up to GT4 this year, both in Pirelli GT4 America and IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge with RAFA Racing Team, where he swept both opening weekends of the IMSA-run season in the GSX class.

Workman and fellow Toyota development driver Tyler Gonzalez, meanwhile, doubled up in last month’s GT4 America season opener at Sonoma Raceway, in a commanding run in both 60-minute races.

“The transition has been pretty seamless,” Workman told Sportscar365. “Before RAFA Racing, it was Smooge Racing and I actually did my first GR Cup race with them three years ago at Road America.

“So I’ve been connected with these guys for a very long time.

“Coming on to the team now, I always saw longevity with this team, so it’s very eye-opening to be back with them and now in the GT4 car.

“It’s been great so far. My co-driver Tyler Gonzalez, he’s done a great job of getting me up to speed and also Kevin Conway (team principal). He’s so hard on both of us and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

“It’s been great so far. I’m still learning the car a little bit but I think the VP Challenge campaign has definitely helped me speed the process up of learning the car so when I come to SRO competition, we’re ready to go.”

The 21-year-old admitted that the Supra GT4 has actually been an easier car to drive than the GR 86 Cup machine he spent the last few seasons in.

“I’m very glad that I spent my time in MX-5 Cup and GR Cup really learning the basics of how to drive a race car fast,” said Workman.

“When I get in something easy, I can apply those same things I learned in something that’s hard to drive.

“The GT4 car does exactly what you want it to do. It’s very intuitive. However you think you’re going to make speed in the car is how the car is going to make speed.

“I’ve been very happy with the car so far. The team has also done a great job of always providing a great setup, even off the trailer.”

When asked about his and Gonzalez’s season prospects, Workman said: “The goal for this season is definitely to win the championship.

“That’s the expectation I have for myself, that’s the expectation Tyler has, as well as the team and Toyota.

“All around, we’re shooting for a championship and I think we’re very capable of doing that. But the cards are going to have to fall our way.

“I’m going to have to do my job. Tyler’s going to have to do his job. The team is going to have to do their job.

“Everybody plays a role in this game. We’re trying to do the best we can is going to be the name of the game this season.”

Workman See “Long-Standing Career” With RAFA

While only in his first full season with the Kevin Conway-led squad, Workman has praised RAFA Racing’s efforts and could see him remaining with the squad, which recently expanded into NASCAR competition in the ARCA Menards Series, for the long-term.

“For me, I see a very long-standing career with RAFA Racing,” he said. “With everything they’re involved in, all the partnerships they’re bringing in.

“Our setup is one of the best in the paddock. I feel like there’s a lot of longevity for me here with RAFA Racing.

“The goal for me is to have a successful career in motorsports no matter where it is; that’s always been my philosophy.

“Whether that’s staying on the sports car path or going NASCAR racing, whether it’s doing anything… I’d be happy anywhere. I just want to drive a race car.”
