Turner Wins After Late-Race Winward Drama on Sunday

Robby Foley and Michael Dinan have claimed a last-gasp victory in Sunday’s Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS race at Road America following a late pit stop for Russell Ward.

Dinan scored his first overall victory in GT3 competition, driving the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 to a 4.662-second win over the No. 6 K-PAX Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo of Giovanni Venturini, who made a late surge to second.

Ward took over the lead from the pole-sitting No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo of Taylor Hagler with 34 minutes to go and appeared set to take victory until being forced into the pits with less than five minutes to go after running low on fuel.

It dropped Ward and co-driver Philip Ellis to a fifth place overall finish.

The No. 20 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Fred Poordad and Jan Heylen took top Pro-Am class honors with a third place result outright, benefitting from Ward and Hagler’s misfortunes.

Andrea Caldarellli rallied to a fourth place finish and third in Pro after being handed a 15-second penalty during its pit stop for co-drover Jordan Pepper’s incident responsibility with the No. 19 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo on the opening lap.

The No. 9 TR3 Racing Lamborghini of Martin Fuentes and Giacomo Altoe was sixth, ahead of the third Pro-Am class-finishing No. 63 DXDT Mercedes duo of Ryan Dalziel and David Askew.

It marked the duo’s second podium finish of the season.

Drew Staveley and Frank Gannett combined for a fourth place class finish, ahead of the Am class-winning No. 61 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Conrad Grunewald and Jean-Claude Saada.

The pairing were aboard a replacement chassis following Saada’s accident in Race 1.

The No. 10 TR3 Racing Lamborghini of Bill Sweedler and John Megrue, the only other Am class entrant, came home a close second, 40 seconds behind.

A suspected puncture on the formation lap knocked the No. 88 Zelus Motorsport Lamborghini of Madison Snow and Jason Harward out of contention, with the duo finishing two laps behind in 12th.

The No. 77 Compass Racing Acura, which finished second in Pro-Am on Saturday, dropped out with a suspected mechanical issue while Hagler retired with less than 22 minutes to go after a suspected mechanical issue with the left-front of the car that forced her to the pits.
