KTM X-Bow GT2 to Make Bathurst 12H Debut

KTM’s X-Bow GT2 will make its Mount Panorama debut in next month’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

To be fielded by KTM’s local squad M Motorsport and Vantage Racing, the 600 horsepower GT2-spec car will be driven by David Crampton, Trent Harrison, Glenn Wood and his brother, Porsche Carrera Cup racer Dale.

Designed around SRO’s GT2 regulations, the X-Bow will run in the event’s Invitational class against multiple entries from MARC Cars Australia.

The car made its local racing debut earlier this year at Sydney Motorsport Park, finishing third outright in the Sydney 4 Hour GT race with Crampton and Harrison behind the wheel.

Powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine sourced from Audi, the X-Bow GT2 weighs just over 1000 kg.

It retains the carbon fiber construction and tub of the existing GT4 car, however adds significant performance and aerodynamics compared to the earlier car.

The debut of the X-Bow GT4 will see the brand and M Motorsport team seeking their second 12-Hour class victory. An M Motorsport KTM X-Bow claiming the GT4 category in 2019 with Glen Wood, Dean Lillie, Elliott Barbour and team owner Justin McMillan behind the wheel.

McMillan, who will call the shots from pit lane this year, says the car will be a strong package at Mount Panorama.

“It’s a strong car and should be very competitive,” he said.

“We’re in the invitational class because there’s only one of them, but it will go well. The car is perfect for this kind of race and they already have had a lot of success running in Creventic races over a long distance.

“Glenn, Dale, Trent and Dave are all driving together for the first time but it’s a strong line-up. For Glenn and Dale, in particular, it might be a challenge to stay within the Invitational class lap time requirements! (2m06s).”

McMillan said the KTM factory has extended their support for the project.

“We didn’t have many spares for the car here, so we approached KTM for some assistance with a spares package for the 12-Hour and they assisted greatly,” he said. “They’re keen to see it run.

“The car gives away downforce to GT3 cars but it will be quicker in a straight line. It’s going to be interesting to see how it goes.”
