A field of 37 cars is set for this weekend’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season-opener at Imola, which marks the platform debut of the new Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2.

The EVO2 version of Lamborghini’s single-make GT racer is an update to the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo that had been in competition around the world since 2019.

The grid for the 2022 European season opener includes eight cars in the top Pro class, as well as 10 Pro-Am entries, 12 in Am and seven in the Lamborghini Cup.

Several new drivers are taking part including multiple MotoGP race winner Dani Pedrosa, who is making his four-wheel racing debut with Rexal FFF Racing Team alongside former LMP2 driver Antonino Borga.

Pedrosa is registered as a derogated Silver* and will therefore compete in the Pro category.

Elsewhere in Pro, Alessandro Tarabini and Filippo Berto form a new pairing for Oregon Team, which claimed the title last year with Leonardo Pulcini and Kevin Gilardoni.

Reigning Lamborghini Super Trofeo world champion Vincenzo Sospiri Racing has enlisted Jean-Luc D’Auria and Stephane Tribaudini, while Bonaldi Motorsport has signed Max Weering, formerly of MCR Racing, and Loris Spinelli who raced in the North America series full-time last year.

Leipert Motorsport has two Pro cars including a solo entry for David-Mihai Serban, a DTM Trophy driver in 2021, and the pairing of Jean-François Brunot and Kerong Li.

BDR Competition is entered with solo competitor Amaury Bonduel, while Target Racing has retained Milan Teekens alongside new recruit Marzio Moretti who previously drove for Bonaldi in Porsche Carrera Cup Italy.

Teekens and Moretti’s car set the pace during a test session held on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s official track sessions.

The Pro field is completed by Imperiale Racing driver Manuel Bejarano.

In Pro-Am, former Strakka Racing GT3 driver Lewis Williamson will team up with Massimo Ciglia at Oregon Team.

Damian Ciosek and Magnus Gustavsen (Lamborghini Roma Team), Emanuele Zonzini and Emanuel Colombini (VSR), Pietro Perolini and Paolo Biglieri (Bonaldi), Bronislav Formanek and Josef Zaruba (Micanek Motorsport), Juergen Krebs and Tim Torsten Müller are among the other pairings.

Of note, Leipert Motorsport’s Brendon Leitch will be on double-duty at Imola as the New Zealander balances his Super Trofeo role alongside Gerhard Watzinger with a Fanatac GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS drive for the same team.

Dan Wells and Oscar Lee have joined FFF while Dmitry Gvazava remains at Target Racing, partnering newcomer Milan Petelet.

Grzegorz Moczulski and Rafal Mikrut will drive for the GT3 Poland outfit, which is also fielding last year’s Pro-Am champion Andrzej Lewandowski in the Am class.

Claude-Yves Gosselin is seeking to defend his Am title in partnership with Marc Rostan at Boutsen Ginion, the Belgian squad running four Super Trofeo EVO2s.

The other Boutsen Ginion cars are being driven by Elie Dubelly/Pierre Feligioni, Daniel Waszczinski/Regis Rego De Sebes and solo driver Francois Grimm.

Am also includes Stephan Guerin at newcomer Arkadia Racing, Holger Harmsen (GT3 Poland), Oliver Freymuth (AKF Motorsport), Enrico Bettera and Lorenzo Pegoraro (Oregon), Cyril and Cedric Leimer (Autovitesse), Gabriel Rindone (Leipert), Raffaele Giannoni (Automobile Tricolore).

In LB Cup, Hans Fabri will launch his pursuit of a third consecutive title driving for Imperiale Racing.

Former champion Gerard van der Horst is also entered, along with last year’s runners-up Luciano and Donovan Privitelio who are back with FFF.

A second LB Cup car for FFF will be driven by Kumar Prabakaran, with Sandro Mur and Jose Alfredo Hernandez Ortega driving solo for Bonaldi and BDR Competition respectively.

The 37th entry from Autovitesse that took part in Wednesday’s testing, driven by Laurent Jenny, was not shown on the provisional 36-car entry list.

The first 50-minute race of the Super Trofeo Europe season takes place on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. local time (10:05 a.m. ET) followed by the second race on Sunday at 11:50 a.m. (5:50 a.m. ET).
