After sweeping the weekend last month at Sonoma Raceway, and winning three of the opening four races, Spike Kohlbecker has emerged as the early championship favorite in Toyota GR Cup North America.
The TechSport driver will be looking to continue his top form this weekend at Circuit of The Americas, for Rounds 5 and 6 of the single-make champiosnhip.
A total of 28 Toyota GR 86 Cup cars are entered for the weekend, in a largely unchanged entry list since the last event.
The only notable addition is an additional Copeland Motorsports entry for Niko Colby, while several of the WWEX Group Legend Cup class entries will not be in action.
Kohlbecker enters the weekend with a 32-point lead over RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate driver Will Robusto, who has moved into second in the standings after two non-points finishes for Copeland’s Jeremy Fletcher in Sonoma.
Fletcher enters COTA fourth in the standings, behind Speed Syndicate driver Max Schweid.
BSI Racing’s Ethan Goulart, meanwhile, sits fifth in the title race, as the series reaches the one-third mark of the season.
GR Cup competitors will have two test sessions on Thursday, followed by a pair of practice sessions on Friday, Qualifying 1 and Race 1 (1:25 p.m. CST) on Saturday and Qualifying 2 and Race 2 (10:40 a.m. CST) on Sunday.
Both 45-minute sprint races will be streamed live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on GRCup.com.
